Our Philosophy

At Jardin Spectrum Assist (JSA), our services and interventions are designed to empower and respect the individuality of each disabled, autistic, and neurodivergent person. We believe that the foundation of providing high-quality support lies in adopting an empathetic approach—one rooted in truly understanding and valuing the diverse lived experiences and narratives of the people we support. By prioritising respect and empowerment, we ensure that our services are aligned with the needs and strengths of each individual.

Our Commitment in Practice

We are dedicated to providing services that are deeply rooted in our core values of neurodiversity-affirming practices, person-centred care, and empowerment. Our approach is designed to honour each individual's unique experience, foster their autonomy, and create environments where they can thrive.

  • Neurodiversity Affirming Model
We fully embrace the Neurodiversity Affirming Approach, recognising that neurodivergent individuals are not 'broken' or 'in need of fixing' but rather possess unique strengths and ways of being. We value and affirm each individual's communication style, strengths, and needs, ensuring that our interventions honour their neurotype and identity.

  • Person-Centred Approach
At JSA, we believe that our clients are the experts of their lived experiences. Instead of adopting an authoritative stance, we actively listen and collaborate with individuals and their families to co-create strategies that respect their autonomy and self-determination. By ensuring that their voice remains central to decision-making, we foster greater ownership and engagement in their care.

  • Promoting Autonomy and Empowerment
We believe that every individual has the right to be heard and to have a say in their service delivery and interventions. Our goal is to ensure that each person feels empowered to make decisions about their life and future. Through our services, we advocate for their rights, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and supports necessary to make informed choices and take control of their own lives.

  • Adapting Environments
We understand the importance of creating environments that cater to individual needs. At JSA, we focus on adapting spaces—whether it’s at home, school, or in the community—to ensure they are more inclusive and comfortable for neurodivergent individuals. We recognise that adjusting the environment can have a significant impact on the well-being and success of the people we support, so we prioritise making those spaces accessible and sensory-friendly.

  • Continuous Engagement with Lived Experience
Lived experiences shape and inform everything we do at JSA. Our team actively seeks out, listens to, and learns from the experiences of those we support. By continuously engaging with these stories, we enhance our understanding and refine our services to better align with the evolving needs of our clients. We are committed to creating a culture of continuous learning, growth, and respect for the diverse perspectives of neurodivergent individuals.

Why Our Approach Matters

  • Recognising Individual Lived Experiences
Every disabled, autistic, and neurodivergent person has their own unique journey filled with strengths, challenges, and aspirations. At Jardin Spectrum Assist (JSA), we deeply value and honour this diversity. Our services and interventions are designed to resonate with each person’s individual narrative, ensuring that their lived experiences shape the support they receive. By recognising and uplifting these personal stories, we foster environments where individuals feel truly understood and respected.

  • Challenging Dominant Non-disabled Narratives
Historically, narratives around disability have often been shaped by non-disabled voices, overshadowing the perspectives of disabled and neurodivergent individuals. At JSA, we are committed to disrupting these dominant narratives. We advocate for the empowerment and amplification of disabled, autistic, and neurodivergent voices, ensuring that their perspectives are not only heard but are central to their care and support. Through this approach, we promote autonomy and self-determination for all individuals we work with.

  • Challenging Stigmatisation and Misrepresentation
Society’s views on disability and neurodivergence have been shaped by misconceptions, stigma, and exclusion, often leading to feelings of isolation or misrepresentation for those in the neurodivergent community. At JSA, we actively challenge these outdated and harmful ideologies by adopting a strengths-based, Neurodiversity Affirming Approach. We work to dismantle stigmatisation by recognising the value and strengths of neurodivergent individuals, providing support that affirms their identity and honours their experiences.

Working from Cafe

Our interventions at JARDIN SPECTRUM ASSIST go beyond standard practices. We are deeply committed to respecting the individual narratives of autistic and disabled people. Our support is tailored to recognise and honour the unique strengths and experiences of each person we work with. As we continue to listen, learn, and adapt, our mission remains clear: empowering individuals to lead lives defined by their own goals, dreams, and strengths—free from societal limitations.
